Aphantasia : a fascinating Journey
Have you ever wondered how others imagine?
Aphantasia is the inability to visualize images, hear sounds or even smell things in your mind.
Who are we?
We are a community created with the aim of making aphantasia better known around us, and around the world!
Aphantasia Club was founded when we realized that aphantasia was not talked about enough in France. Charlotte, Matthieu and Charles took matters into their own hands, and are now managing all Aphantasia Club’s accounts; regularly creating and sharing understandable and quality content.
What are our goals?
- Make aphantasia and its spectrum known around us, in France, in the media and on social networks.
- To bring together all the people concerned and interested in this subject, and to have discussions and debates all together!
- To raise awareness about the impact of aphantasia on our daily lives; especially on our memory, school lives and learning capacities.
- To help researchers working on aphantasia; by participating in those researches, by sharing them and by getting in touch with professionals.

We’re also an association
We are the first French association dedicated to the phantasia spectrum: Aphantasia Club????
We have three main objectives:
GATHERING
First of all, we want to bring aphantasic, phantasic and hyperphantasic people together around a caring community and a common project.
RAISING AWARENESS
Then, we want to raise awareness about the mental imagery spectrum by working with the media and with any company, association or group of people who wish to do the same.
DetectING
Finally, it is essential for us to support the detection of aphantasia from a very young age in order to anticipate some invisible difficulties (especially at school).

THE Phantasia spectrum
Over time, the use of the term « phantasia spectrum » has become more and more common. This term includes all the nuances of « imagination »..
Aphantasia
Where most people see their thoughts, memories and daydreams materialize into images behind their eyelids; for aphants, there are never any images. The other mental senses may also be absent.
Phantasia
A phantasic person can see their thoughts, memories and daydreams materialize into images in their mind. This visualization ability is unique to each person and can very much vary from one individual to another.
Hyperphantasia
This is the exact opposite of aphantasia on the spectrum. To be hyperphantasic is to mentally feel every thought in a vivid and powerful way. People with hyperphantasia can clearly imagine and remember with all 5 mental senses..
